EcoFurnSOLUTIONS

Reduce waste by increasing reuse.

Everything we pick up is resold, donated or responsibly recycled. Here's how each path works, and how we decide.

80%

of what we pick up is upcycled, resold or donated instead of going to a landfill.

  • Resold

Items with resale value are cleaned, refurbished, photographed and appraised, then sold on consignment through our own store, The Loft NoVA, or through two-week auctions with our local auction partner. Resellability comes down to brand, condition and current demand. Download the Resale Guide for what we usually accept.

  • Donated

Usable items our partners can place go to local and national non-profits that support people in your community. You receive a donation receipt for a possible tax deduction. Have a charity you prefer? Tell us and we'll do our best.

  • Recycled

What can't be sold or donated goes to local recycling centers and transfer stations, where it's separated into scrap metal, e-waste, reclaimed wood and more. Only what can't be recycled is disposed of.

Questions

About resale, donation and recycling.

What do you pick up?
Almost everything: furniture, home decor, electronics, art, toys, sporting goods, appliances. The exceptions are hazardous materials (paint, chemicals), weapons, hot tubs, pool tables, construction waste and trash such as food waste.
How do you decide what gets resold?
Three things: brand, condition and the current resale market for similar items, with the item's age and our current inventory also considered. A dedicated internal team reviews every item. Our Resale Guide lists what we usually accept for resale, donation or disposal.
What happens to donated items?
We partner with local and national donation organizations that collect from our warehouse. If you'd like a specific charity to receive your items, tell us and we'll do our best. Once donated, you receive a receipt for a possible tax deduction.
How does the recycling part work?
Items that can't be sold or donated go to local recycling centers, where they're separated into categories like scrap metal, electronic waste and reclaimed wood so they can be repurposed. Only items that can't be recycled are disposed of. Recycling fees run $0.60 to $1.50 per cubic foot depending on the market.
